Founding Members Formally Establish the Digital Space Consortium

The Digital Space Consortium (DSC) has officially been established following the signing of the Consortium Agreement by its founding members: Blue Marble Communications, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, and BruhnBruhn Innovation.

The signing marks an important milestone for the Consortium as it enters its next phase and continues the development of the Digital Space Interface (DSI). The (DSI) is a set of open, royalty-free APIs, published under the Apache License 2.0, that enables onboard computers to run applications and deliver data products using the same cloud-native principles that have transformed terrestrial computing.

Consortium leadership

As part of the Consortium’s establishment, Fredrik Bruhn has been appointed Chairman of the Digital Space Consortium. As Chairman, he will lead the Steering Committee and guide the Consortium’s technical and strategic direction together with representatives from the founding organisations and future members.

In addition, Neal Nicholson, President of Blue Marble Communications, has been appointed Senior Advisor to the Consortium. Nabar Tsog and other representatives of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will serve as Strategic Leaders and Consortium Managers, helping guide the Consortium’s strategic direction and operational activities.

Building an open digital ecosystem for space

The Digital Space Consortium brings together organisations from industry, government, and academia to develop open standards that support interoperable software-defined space systems.

Through the development of the Digital Space Interface, the Consortium seeks to establish a common software foundation that enables applications and services to operate across diverse spacecraft and computing platforms. By promoting open interfaces rather than proprietary implementations, the DSC aims to accelerate innovation while lowering the barriers to deploying software in space.
