DSC Looks Ahead to First Collaborative Meeting Following SmallSat 2026

The Digital Space Consortium was represented at SmallSat 2026 in Salt Lake City by founding members Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and BruhnBruhn Innovation.

Over four days, we had the opportunity to introduce the Consortium to organizations from across the space community and, more importantly, listen to their perspectives on the future of onboard computing and interoperability.

The response was overwhelmingly positive. Many of the people we spoke with recognized the need for greater standardization and interoperability in space systems and welcomed the initiative behind the DSC. It was encouraging to hear this message repeated across conversations with different parts of the space community.

The development of the Digital Space Interface (DSI) is intended to be a collaborative effort. Understanding how different organizations build and operate space systems today, where they encounter limitations, and where common interfaces could provide value is an important part of shaping a standard that works across the industry.

With this in mind, the DSC has also set the date for its first collaborative meeting, taking place in Japan on October 14–15, 2026. The meeting will bring together participants to share their expertise, discuss current approaches and challenges, and begin working together on the direction of the DSI.

SmallSat gave us the opportunity to connect with satellite manufacturers, technology providers, operators, researchers, government organizations, and others across the space ecosystem. We hope to continue many of these conversations in Japan, where participants will have the opportunity to contribute directly to the collaborative work of the DSC.

The conversations do not stop here. We look forward to bringing more organizations and perspectives into the work as the DSI develops.
